The international break has stopped FA Women’s Super League for a while, so we can have a look on the situation at the league table and watching the pathway of FA Cup and Subway League Cup, also seeing which teams are fighting for a spot in the English First Tier.
FA WOMEN’S SUPER LEAGUE, THE STANDINGS AFTER MATCHDAY 6
The FA Women’s Super League sees a very tight race for league title as Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United closed in two points with both Blues and Red Devils unbeaten after six matches. Bompastor‘s side look strong also if the performance has lacked a bit, hut their rivals do not want to let them win once again the title.
Behind them Tottenham and Arsenal are leading two different pathways: Spurs are growing after last season’s eleventh place, while Gunners have to deal with the pressure of being the current European champions and to be closer than they actually are to the leading team, also their older rivals. Both are dealing with ACL injuries, as Tottenham recently lost Maite Oroz while Arsenal see the absence of Manuela Zinsberger.
THE FIGHT FOR RELEGATION
The fight for avoiding relegation involves Liverpool and West Ham actually, both with no points at the end of the league table. Reds‘ situation is not looking good, between the loss of their formed coach Matt Beard (we spoke about it before) and the loss of Marie Höbinger and Sophie Román Haug due to an ACL rupture. Hammers‘ share the record as the worst attack of FA Women’s Super League with Liverpool, but they have also the leakiest defense. Just a position above sit Everton, which has beaten only their rivals in the Merseyside derby in 6 matches, but their target is to do more than what they have shown at this moment.
HOW ARE LONDON CITY LIONESSES DOING?
London City Lionesses, Michele Kang‘s team, are doing quite well, after a difficult start – due to the adaptation to a new league and to the pressure after a good transfer session – and they sit now in 6th place in the standings, matching our expectations. For any addition, we have to wait for the second half of this autumn/winter season.
BETWEEN WSL 2 AND CUPS
FA Women’s Super League 2 sees four teams fighting for promotion, with Charlton Athletic currently leading with 14pts, one more than Birmingham City, that is followed in turn by Southampton and Bristol City, so the situation could evolve in any way soon. Subway League Cup is underway with no surprises as the WSL teams are all leading their group, FA Cup is going to start officially this weekend but no team of the first two division is involved in the First Round.
