At the Arena Civica named after journalist Gianni Brera, the Nerazzurre threatened twice in the opening ten minutes, crashing into Fiskerstrand’s saves. From there, they simply waited for the right moment to break the deadlock – and it arrived in the 43rd minute, when Magull headed in Wullaert’s cross at the far post. Bugeja bled the lead in the 62nd minute, finishing Schough’s through ball with a deft touch of her right foot. Inter then closed the match definitively in the 77th minute, when Polli slid in to convert Magull’s low delivery for the 3-0. Another convincing performance, and a result that pushes Fiorentina further away from the European conversation.
Fiorentina Women Slip Out of European Contention
The fifth defeat of the season – all of them coming in direct clashes – combined with the draw against Genoa and Parma effectively seals the end of Fiorentina’s European hopes. The Viola ran aground at the Arena Civica on an afternoon in which their attack produced very little: Rúnarsdóttir was only tested by Bredgaard in the 9th minute, and later intervened on Bonfantini and Eiríksdóttir when the match was already out of reach.
The scoreline did not worsen only because Wullaert missed a penalty in the 88th minute (awarded for a handball by van der Zanden). It is a result that does not erase the team’s potential, but one that likely forces a recalibration of their ambitions.
